Established in July 2012, Growing Young aims to connect elderly and the younger generation through a community garden.
People in need
The aging population of New Zealand who are inactive and socially isolated.
The purpose of this project is to create a sustainable environment whilst providing social benefit. An Enactus AUT Community Garden has been setup in the Northcote Community Centre for the elderly living in the vicinity to develop. The project is designed to connect the elderly with other members of the community who will be encouraged to work with them to develop this garden space.
The elderly are able connect with each other and younger members of the community, breaking their isolation and allowing them to share their wisdom and passion.
Produce grown in the garden can be sold within the community.
